Interpretation of the Party’s Report to the 20th CPC National Congress | Chinese modernization has five characteristics.
CCTV News:Today (October 24th) morning, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held a press conference to introduce Report to the 20th CPC National Congress who interpreted the Party. Sun Yeli, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, responded to a reporter’s question about "Chinese modernization".
Sun Yeli, Vice Minister of Propaganda Department of CPC Central Committee:Report to the 20th CPC National Congress systematically expounded five characteristics of Chinese modernization. First, Chinese modernization is a modernization with a huge population. With a population of more than 1.4 billion, resources and environmental conditions are very restrictive, which is a prominent national condition of China, which also determines that China’s modernization can’t copy foreign models, and its development approach and promotion method must have its own characteristics. The difficulty and complexity of the modernization of such a large population are unprecedented, and at the same time, its significance and influence are unprecedented. Promoting the modernization of such a scale is also a great contribution to human society, and we also feel a great responsibility.
Second, Chinese modernization is the modernization of common prosperity for all people. This is determined by the nature of Socialism with Chinese characteristics’s system, and we cannot accept the pattern of polarization. We want all the people to live a good life, have the opportunity to participate in the modernization process with their own abilities and share the fruits of national development with their own contributions, and we can’t leave any group behind. Of course, common prosperity is not egalitarianism, let alone robbing the rich to help the poor. There is a problem of getting rich first and then getting rich first. At the same time, common prosperity is also a long-term historical process, which cannot be achieved overnight, but we will work firmly in this direction. The successful poverty alleviation of nearly 100 million rural poor people since the 18th National Congress is a good example.
Third, Chinese-style modernization is a modernization in which material civilization and spiritual civilization are coordinated. In the past, a major drawback of modernization in some countries was the excessive expansion of materialism; Of course, a strong material foundation and abundant materials of people’s material life are the proper meanings of modernization, but if people only pursue material enjoyment without healthy spiritual pursuit and rich spiritual life, they will become the kind of "one-dimensional person" described by sociologists, and colorful human nature will turn into a single material desire, which is also a human tragedy. This is what we don’t take. What we pursue is both material wealth and spiritual wealth, which is the all-round development of people.
Fourth, Chinese-style modernization is the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. Throughout the history of world modernization, the destruction of the ecological environment in the process of industrialization and urbanization is a common problem. We have gone through many detours before. After the 18th National Congress, we resolutely curbed the momentum of ecological environment destruction, and ecological environment protection has undergone historic, turning and overall changes. The concept of "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", the Supreme Leader’s General Secretary, has been deeply rooted in people’s hearts and has been integrated into our system, policies and culture. We will unswervingly follow the road of sustainable development in the future.
Fifth, Chinese-style modernization is a modernization that takes the road of peaceful development. We don’t take the old road that some countries realize modernization through war, colonization and plunder. Our banner is peace, development, cooperation and win-win, which is determined by our system and our culture. It is in China’s fundamental interest to follow the path of peaceful development, and we will continue to follow this path. We also hope that other countries will follow the path of peaceful development.
